Grootegeluk Coal Mine expansion project, Exxaro, Ellisras, Limpopo

Grootegeluk Coal Mine operates the world’s largest coal beneficiation complex. P Design was appointed as a specialist structural consultant to Arup as part of a joint venture between Arup and Aveng EPC for the Grootegeluk Coal Mine expansion project for Exxaro. P Design was responsible for the design of the following reinforced concrete structures:

  • Cyclone Silo, 15m diameter x 33m total height with a material capacity of 3700m3 
  • Three GG7 and GG8 Rawl Coal Silos with material capacities of 1 x 2650m3 and 2 x 3400m3. 
  • Larcodem Feed Bins, 54m long x 23m high x 9m wide with a material capacity of 5000m3 
  • Product Coal Silo, 15m diameter x 25m total height with a material capacity of 2200m3

P Design was also appointed as structural consultant to Taggart LSL on the same project for the design of the 85,000kg structural steelwork Discard Coal Transfer Tower.

 

Thos Begbie Gas-to-Electricty plant, Middelburg, Mpumalanga

Civil and Structural design of the new Poweralt Gas-to-Electricity Power station at Thos Begbie including earthworks, stormwater, foundations, architectural and building works, concrete slabs and plinths, structural steel supports.

Tweefontein Coal Optimization Project, Xstrata coal SA, Ogies, Mpumalanga.

P Design was appointed as consultant to Parsons Brinckerhoff for the design of the temporary mining infrastructure area (TMIA) at the Tweefontein Coal Mine. Design of reinforced concrete and structural steelwork. 

  • Heavy vehicle wash-bay facility concrete slabs and sumps.
  • Re-fuel station floor slab

P  Design also won the design and construct tender to supply as part of the TMIA the Heavy Duty Vehicle Workshop consisting of concrete floors, foundations and steelwork portal frame canopy. Construction project partner was Cadcon (www.cadcon.co.za).

 

Soshanguve Primary School Solar Power Project, Tshwane, Gauteng

P Design was appointed as a consultant to Current Automation for the Architectural and Structural Design of a visually environmentally friendly looking solar power support structure. The project brief was to design a support structure resembling a tree while confirming to durability, functionality and security requirements
