Pebbel Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) – Nuclear Pilot Fuel Plant Facilities at NECSA site, Pelindaba, Gauteng

P Design was appointed by Uhde Thysenkrupp to provide the professional engineering services for the Lead Civil, Structural and Building Engineering Services on the PBMR Pilot Fuel Plant Facilities at Pelindaba.

P Design was responsible for the management of all Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Architectural design activities on the PBMR Fuel Plant (PFP) Project. Included in the scope of services were: 

Interface Coordination of Design

  • Earth Works
  • Concrete Works
  • Structural Steelwork
  • Architectural Design Work (inclusive of all modifications to plant buildings)
  • Civil Infrastructural Works, consisting of roads, contractor lay down area and offices design, including specification compilation
  • Storm water drainage
  • Sewage system and reticulation
  • Nuclear structural analysis and requirements

Engineering Management Support

  • Creation and Maintenance of Civil and Structural Engineering Budgets
  • Creation and Maintenance of Architectural Budgets
  • Assist with the compilation of the technical enquiry documents in accordance with PBMR requirements in support of tendering processes.
  • Manage Architectural consultants’ technical outputs.
  • Manage Civil and Structural engineering consultants’ engineering technical outputs.
  • Provide project supervisor services in terms of NEC construction contracts where required.
  • Assist the project planner in the compilation and maintenance of contract schedule for control and monitoring purposes.

Lead Civil Engineer on projects for AECI, SASOL and NATREF

P Design was appointed by POWER Engineers and SDE as structural design consultant to design pipe racks, pipe road bridges, trestles, pipe supports and culverts for various projects done for SASOL and SASOL Synfuels in Secunda.

P Design consulting engineer, Pieter-Ben van Aswegen, has extensive experience working on petro-chemical projects for AECI (Modderfontein), SASOL (Sasolburg and Secunda) and NATREF (Sasolburg).

  • PP2, Sasol Secunda – Lead Civil Engineer for Uhde in partnership with Technip, France.
  • PP1 Sasol Secunda – Lead Civil Enginneer on PP1 Purge gas and Conveying project.
  • Natref, Sasolburg – Lead Civil Engineer on MMT Dosing and Petrol Routing Projects.
  • Sasol, Sasolburg – Lead Civil Engineer on Chlorine Drying – Project Aquarius.
  • Sasol, Secunda – Lead Civil Engineer on Small Baskets of Projects
  • Sasol Secunda – Lead Civil Engineer on HP/LP Steam Header upgrades.
  • AECI, Modderfontein – Lead Civil Engineer on Chimney Stack platform revisions
